Gauges - Weld & Pitting >> Pit Gauges
Exacto Machine : Bridge Type Pit Gauge
Allows you to easily measure surface pitting depth and plot corrosion profile

Digital pit depth measurement with ease, accuracy & repeatability

It's the pits. Getting accurate pit depths and corrosion profiles can sometimes be a problem. Measuring on rounded surfaces or upside down could yield unreliable results. Digital pit depth gauges from Exacto Machine & Tool are the answer. The gauges are designed for easy use, accuracy, and repeatability. The PGD 1200 includes a 12" bridge (PGD 1800 - 18") to effectively span the pit to be assessed. Corrosion profiles can be plotted quickly and accurately by moving the dial indicator along the bridging bar. Notched feet prevent the bridge from rocking on a rounded surface. Ceramic magnets securely hold the gauge in place, a definite bonus when working upside-down. The left-handed scale measures increasing depth as the tip drops into the pit. A locking adjustment screw allows instant calibration to a reference surface. Thumbscrews facilitate one-handed operation.

  Operating Instructions

1. Calibrate (or "zero") the dial indicator. Place gauge on a reference surface. This surface should be true and without pits or other variations, and gauge should be oriented in a similar manner as surface to be assessed. Loosen locking mechanism, and rotate dial face until "zero" is aligned with large needle. Tighten locking mechanism.
2. Place gauge on surface to be assessed. "Feet" should be positioned on a true surface and should span pit.
3. By loosening thumbscrews, gauge can slide forward and backward in bridge. By watching the needle, the deepest reading can be attained. This feature (combined with the scale on the bridge) also allows multiple readings to be taken at various intervals. Note: thumbscrews must be re-tightened prior to recording depth reading. Failure to re-tighten thumbscrews will result in a significant measurement error.
4. Read the depth. Small inner dial represents tenths of inches, and outer dial represents thousandths of inches. For example, if inner dial indicates a reading between 1 and 2 and outer dial indicates a reading of 66, then pit depth is 0.166" deep. One complete rotation of inner dial represents 0.500".
