Level I & II

ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGING FOR

PIPELINE, PLANT AND EQUIPMENT INSPECTORS

Ultrasonic thickness gauging is too important to learn by trail and error! Let us teach you how to do it right.

What's Covered?

Day One - Level I:

- Fundamentals of Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

- Calibration - Why, how, when and how often?

- Test conditions - Exterior and internal corrosion

- Scanning speed - how fast can you scan and still detect pitting?

- Choosing the proper instrument, probe and couplant.

- Is it really wall thinning, or did you detect a material flaw such as an inclusion or lamination? And, how to tell the difference.

Day Two - Level II:

- Through coating measurements

- High temperature measurements

- Testing different materials - test block or correction factors

- Special applications

- Accuracy, reliability & repeatability

- Data logging schemes

- Instrument selection

- Digital Readout

- A-Scan

- B-Scan

Day Three:

- A-Scan instruments, i.e., MVX, DMS, DMS-2, T-Scope III, 36DL

- Application Engineering - solving difficult test applications

- Data Recorders

- Reporting

Radiatronics Thickness Gauging Courses are designed to help all thickness gauge users do a better job with more confidence and accuracy.

We don’t just go over how things are supposed to work in an ideal world. We cover the real world situations that the inspector must know how to recognize and be able to deal with effectively.

We use many actual corrosion samples, not just test blocks.

Course contents can be modified to meet your specific needs.

Most of our students come to us on the recommendation of a sister plant or co-worker who has attended one of our programs.

Who should attend?

Day One Program:

- Pipeline Inspectors and Welders

- Tank Inspectors (bare materials)

- Bridge inspectors

Day Two:

- Tank Inspectors (coated materials)

- Power Plant Inspectors

- Boiler Inspectors

- Refinery & Chemical Plant Inspectors

- Customers with difficult applications

- Customers with A & B Scan displays

- Ship Surveyors

This course covers both the theory and practical application of ultrasonic testing. The focus of this program is on the use of ultrasonic flaw detectors for applications such as lamination testing, bond inspection and welding inspection. The student learns how to choose a transducer, calibrate his or her instrument, detect, locate and measure flaws.

All NDT Supply training programs are designed with the needs of the inspector and technician in mind. Our courses are practical, down-to-earth programs that teach you what you need to know to do your job properly. We don’t spend hours working math and trig. formulas that you will not use in the field. We make extensive use of actual flawed samples we have collected over thirty years – not just test blocks. Students are welcomed to bring their own instrument, probes, etc. or they can use our state-of-the-art StressTel and Krautkramer instruments.

All of our programs are in Microsoft PowerPoint. We use a state-of-the art computer projector to show each subject clearly to any size class.

NDT : Ultrasonic Testing - Flaw Sizing Methods
DGS and other flaw sizing techniques

Flaw Sizing Methods including D.G.S. Flaw Evaluation.

This program is an in-plant program for companies that need to size detected flaws. Methods covered are D.G.S. (AVG), 6 dB and 20 dB flaw sizing methods.

This course is offered as a one or two day program. Written and practical exams are available if desired.

We use state-of-the-art instruments and our own customized PowerPoint presentations.

Students are required to demonstrate their ability to calibrate their instrument, detect and size flaws in test blocks and flawed samples.

Travel and living expenses to your site are extra, and billed at actual cost.
